illumiFun⚓︎

illumiFun lets you use Illumibot without the Illumibot device. Your phone drives the projector directly over a USB-C to HDMI cable.

What you need⚓︎

  • A phone with a USB-C port that can output video over HDMI
  • A USB-C to HDMI cable
  • A projector with an HDMI input

Setting up⚓︎

  1. On the Home tab, choose Illumifun under Get started.
  2. Watch the setup video (optional). It shows where to place your projector.
  3. Set up your projector: put it on a flat, steady surface, power it on, switch to the HDMI input and focus it.
  4. Connect illumiFun:
    • Plug the USB-C end into your phone.
    • Plug the HDMI end into the projector.
    • Wait for Signal Detected, then tap Continue.
  5. Follow the Projector check and See how it works screens.
  6. Guided setup takes your photo, aligns the projection and creates the mask for you (see below).
  7. Start prompting!

When your phone is connected, a pulsing bar appears at the top of the app and you'll see illumiFun mode. While illumiFun is connected, your other Illumibots are switched off. They switch back on when you unplug.

Samsung phones: turn off DeX

If Samsung DeX takes over the HDMI output, the projector shows the DeX desktop and illumiFun can't display anything. The app shows Turn off Samsung DeX. Tap Open Settings, go to Samsung DeX, and turn off Auto start when HDMI is connected.

Guided setup⚓︎

Guided setup is the easy way to align illumiFun. Each stage opens with a short narrated video, so turn your volume up.

  1. Take Photo of your surface.
  2. Mask the surface you want to project onto. Mask one solid area.
  3. Line up the area on the projection surface, then tap Done.
  4. Capture: hold your phone still while it photographs the projection.
  5. Tap the markers as the app asks. You need at least 4. Skip and Undo are there if you need them.
  6. Is the image aligned? Choose Yes, save, Slightly off, adjust manually, or Try again.

If something goes wrong, the app tells you what to fix. For example, it may ask you to hold still, face the surface more directly, or make the area larger.

Note

Running Guided setup again replaces the location's photo. You'll need to redo the mask and your creations for that location afterwards. Nothing changes if you stop partway.

You can switch illumiFun on or off under Profile → Settings → Enable IllumiFun.
